Support MECA Volunteer

MECA depends on the generosity of volunteers to accomplish a number of administrative, programmatic and special projects tasks.  Volunteers may serve as tutors, mentors or board members, or may assist with special events, marketing or fundraising activities.  In addition, if you have special expertise you would like to contribute, we would love to hear from you.

The Bayou City Arts Festival is a biannual, outdoor fine arts festival showcasing juried art from 300 artists in a variety of media. Adding to the festive outdoor gallery are wine cafés, the interactive Capital One Creative Zone for children, restaurants, and a performing arts stage with multicultural musical and dance entertainment presented by the Houston Arts Alliance. The event is produced by the Art Colony Association, and is held in Downtown Houston during the fall and at Memorial Park during the spring. A portion of proceeds from the festival will benefit MECA and other Houston non-profits. In order to receive these proceeds, MECA operates a Rock Painting booth where children may create souvenirs. Volunteers are needed to assist booth visitors and provide a friendly face to the community. Volunteers receive a free t-shirt and admission to the festival.

Día de los Muertos Festival: Honoring Our Past, Celebrating Our Future MECA’s annual Día de los Muertos Festival: Honoring Our Past, Celebrating Our Future is a community celebration of art, music, food – and the loved ones who never truly leave us. There are many volunteer opportunities in the weeks preceding the event and through the festival weekend, including operating food, drink and crafts booths.

Are you a student looking to fill required community service hours for school? MECA needs your help! Student volunteers may serve as tutors and mentors, or may help with special events. In addition, university students may have the opportunity to gain volunteer experience in their major concentration area. Meet your class requirements while serving in a dynamic, colorful arts and youth development program. Full-time volunteer positions available in the summer.
